Over 1000 residents in the Lafiaji, Obalende area of Lagos State, have received free medical outreach and food items at a programme organised by Apostle Phillips Ministries Inc.

The event, which is the second edition of the Ministry’s Medical outreach, witnessed free treatment of various degrees of ailments.

The Senior Pastor of the Ministry, Apostle Akintunde Phillips, said God laid it in his heart to come back to Nigeria and help the less privileged, adding that the gesture would reduce the medical burdens of the less privileged people in the society.

The beneficiaries were tested and treated for malaria cases, given family health care services, free eyeglasses, free medical checkups and food items.

The outreach, which also witnessed the promotion of the gospel of Christ, morality, integrity and Christian virtues in the community, was ‘Let My People Go 2023’ and was part of the church’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) scheme to impact the community.

He said: “Because of the situation in the country, it was laid in my heart to give back to the people. We have about 20 doctors here to do medical checkups and administer health services to the people. There are over 700 free eye glasses, while the doctors are checking and treating high blood pressure, dental problems, among others.”

One of the doctors at the event, Eyinade Adewale, stated that given the current economic reality, there is a surge in medical challenges among the people and accessibility is a major challenge in the country.

“At times it could be because of money, when you hear of a place where you can check up your body and collect free drugs, won’t you be happy? That is it, that is why you see people coming out in their numbers. I think I even heard that they are making provisions for food. So, once you check your body, you see a doctor, you collect drugs and they will still serve them food. I think that is okay,” Adewale said.

Another doctor, Bayere Solomon, said the majority of the people are conscious of their health challenges, but economic realities had made the people to ignore them.

“The cost of drugs is going up every day, just like every other thing in the market. I urge Nigerians to take advantage of any opportunity that they see to take care of themselves.”
