Groups renovate healthcare centres in Edo

To improve and bring healthcare closer to underserved communities in the country, Private Sector Health Alliance of Nigeria (PSHAN), in collaboration with the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation, has handed over four Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in Edo state.

The newly improved centres were delivered as a part of the Adopt-a-Healthcare Facility Programme (ADHFP) and equipped to provide improved healthcare services in Atoruru PHC in Owan West, Ute PHC in Ikpoba Okha, Evbuodia PHC in Oredo, and Idunmungha PHC in Uhunmwode.

The ceremony was held recently in Atohuru PHC in Owan West LGA, Edo State to advance PSHAN and the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation’s collaborative efforts to strengthen the resilience and accessibility of the healthcare system in the state.

Speaking at the event, the Co-Founder and Executive Vice-Chair, Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation, Mrs Ofovwe Aig-Imoukhuede, said the foundation is revitalising PHCs in underserved communities as a significant step towards the foundation’s vision of healthier, more equitable future for all Nigerians.

The Managing Director, PSHAN, Dr Tinuola Akinbolagbe, said the transformation of healthcare through ADHFP is in motion across the country and will increase outpatient attendance, maternal care registrations, and immunizations.

“In 2023, our pilot facilities saw a 91 per cent increase in outpatient attendance and an 832 per cent growth in antenatal care registrations. Through the ADHFP initiative, we aim to make a tangible difference in the lives of people in underserved communities and transform healthcare delivery in the country,” she added.

The unveiling ceremony comes after the partnership between the foundation and PSHAN was formalised with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between both organisations, which marks the first phase of the Foundation’s multimillion-naira commitment to renovating 23 PHCs across the country under ADHFP.
