A new book, ‘Herbal Spices: Local Foods As Medicines’, authored by a former Deputy Editor of The Guardian, Mr. Chukwuma Muanya, has been endorsed by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Muhammad Ali Pate.
Speaking when he received copies of the book from the author in his office in Abuja, the minister described Muanya as an exceptional journalist that demonstrated a high level of professionalism.
He said: “You are a professional. I have immense respect for you. I want to encourage you to continue on that path and success will be yours at the end of the day.
“This is very good. These days, it is easy to copy what everybody else is doing, but you identified a niche and it was original. You brought an alignment between your training, professional practice as a journalist and research to make your contribution. You connected it with the foods that we like to eat. I am very proud of you. I am very glad that you have done this and thank you for coming to share it.”
Earlier, Muanya stated that the book is a documentation of evidence-based and scientifically authenticated herbal remedies for a range of chronic illnesses.
He said: “In the university, I studied something around medicinal plants and botany and when I got to The Guardian, it was more like what they were doing.”
Muanya described the minister as someone God used to elevate his journalism career
“This book identified and validated local foods as effective treatments for common ailments, including malaria, typhoid, hepatitis, diabetes, hypertension, cancer, infertility, erectile dysfunction, fibroids, and more,” Muanya stated.
