The Healthcare Federation of Nigeria (HFN) has appointed former senator Dr Olanrewaju Tejuoso and global health expert Dr Ebere Okereke to its Board of Trustees as part of efforts to strengthen its governance and support healthcare reforms in the country.

The federation disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying the appointments would bolster its advocacy for policy reforms, deepen public private sector collaboration, and promote the role of the private sector in improving healthcare delivery across Nigeria.

According to the federation, the appointments come as Nigeria’s health sector continues to evolve, requiring stronger institutional leadership to support policy dialogue, strategic partnerships, and the attainment of Universal Health Coverage.

Tejuoso, a physician and former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health in the 8th National Assembly, was credited with supporting health financing reforms, the implementation of the National Health Act, and the Basic Health Care Provision Fund. The federation described him as a long-standing partner with extensive experience in healthcare policy, governance, and institutional leadership.

Okereke, a public health physician and global health strategist, currently serves as Global Health Adviser to the Director General of the Mohamed bin Zayed Foundation for Humanity. She has more than three decades of experience in health security, epidemic preparedness, health systems strengthening, and policy development, working with governments and international organisations.

Speaking on the appointments, the President of HFN, Njide Ndili, said the addition of both health experts would strengthen the federation’s leadership and strategic direction.

She said, “We are delighted to welcome Senator Tejuoso and Dr. Ebere to the HFN Board of Trustees. Their exceptional leadership, depth of experience, and shared commitment to advancing healthcare will significantly strengthen our governance and strategic direction.

“As we continue to champion a thriving private healthcare sector that complements national health priorities, their insights and guidance will be invaluable in shaping sustainable solutions, fostering collaboration, and driving meaningful impact across Nigeria’s health system.”

The federation added that the appointments reflect its commitment to strengthening governance and advancing policies, partnerships, and investments that will support a stronger and more sustainable healthcare system in Nigeria.
