The Management of the Healing Stripes Hospital has disclosed that its emergency teams salvaged the gas explosion situation at Four Points by Sheraton Hotel by rendering first aid service to the victims and informed the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) of the incident.

According doctor in Charge of the Healing Stripes Hospital team that rescued the victims, Dr. Ezinne Onyemere, “the explosion was unexpected but since the entire staff members of the hospital are trained on emergency response, they were able to make a difference by resuscitating the victims that were injured with their medical equipment.

She said despite the hospital being damaged by part of the gas cylinder that was in flame, the hospital team rendered emergency care while it informed LASEMA that came to salvage the situation.

“Our hospital is opposite Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, when the explosion from the hotel hit our security person and our facilities, we quickly divided our team into two. While some were busy evacuating our patients the other team proceed quickly to the hotel to offer first aid and resuscitation services.

“Even though some casualties were recorded, we were able to make a different as our team was able to render excellent care and later initiate a call to the Lagos State emergency response for proper referral. Our effort is in line with the mission and vision of the hospital which is to provide quality medical care, ensure that healthcare is accessible and affordable to everyone irrespective of their status.”

Onyemere, however, seized the opportunity to sympathise with the victims families and the hotel management, “this incident actually confirmed to us that investment we made in training our staff for emergency response is not a waste and we will continue to build capacity of not only our staff but the general public in area of emergency response. I am pleased with their coordination and professionalism during the incident.”She further said that the management of the hotel has come to appreciate the effort of the hospital and promised to compensate for the damages caused by the explosion on the building.
