Imo govt urges pregnant mothers to access free healthcare

The Imo State Government has urged pregnant mothers to take advantage of the quality healthcare services in the state without any financial burden.

The public awareness programme, launched by the Imo Health Insurance Agency, aims to cover all areas in the 305 centres across the 27 local councils of the state, to reduce maternal mortality in the state.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Enlightenment, Prince Eze Ugochukwu, stated on Monday that the programme, “Zero Maternal Mortality Journey,” encompasses antenatal and postnatal care for all registered pregnant women.

He said, “This initiative is part of the state’s commitment to achieving zero maternal mortality by 2025. With this programme, pregnant women can access quality healthcare services without a financial burden. The program covers antenatal, delivery, and postnatal care for pregnant women.”

Ugochukwu urged the concerned mothers, who are poor and vulnerable, to visit the nearest primary health centre and register, adding that this would enable them to gain access to medical services promptly, thereby saving their lives.

“To enrol in the program, individuals can visit the nearest Primary Health Centre in their area and register. This will grant them access to free healthcare services, including timely medical interventions that can help save lives.

“We are focused on our zero maternal mortality journey for 2025. The Imo State Health Insurance Agency is encouraging everyone to join the journey towards zero maternal mortality in Imo State,” he informed.
