Kwara, varsity sign deal to upgrade medical facility as teaching hospital

Kwara State, yesterday, added another teaching hospital to its several established tertiary health institutions under an agreement with the founder of Thomas Adewumi University (TAU), Oko in Irepodun Local Council of the state.

Kwara currently has four teaching hospitals, including the one the Federal Government owns.

They are the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH), Teaching Hospital, Sobi, Ilorin (being used by Al-Hikmah University as the training ground for its medical students), and Thomas Adewumi University Teaching Hospital (TAUTH), Omu-Aran.

The agreement is to upgrade the Omu Aran General Hospital to a teaching hospital for the medical students of Thomas Adewumi University (TAU).

Expected to produce more quality health workers, especially medical officers and other specialists, the MOU is another bold step of the current administration to strengthen its collaboration with private institutions in healthcare delivery.

Last year, the government signed a similar MOU to allow the Al-Hikmah University to use the newly upgraded Sobi Specialist Hospital, Ilorin, as a teaching hospital as part of the accreditation processes for its medical courses.

The MOU signing with TAU attracted senior government officials, traditional rulers, top academics, and stakeholders in the sector.
