The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Ali Pate, has offered medical services to over 15,000 people across 10 local government areas of Bauchi State.
Pate, who commenced the outreach in July this year, said he had paid attention to less privileged members of the communities, particularly the flood victims.
The Minister, through his special purpose vehicle, the Chigari Foundation, and the Nigerian Medical Association in the State, offered medical services to beneficiaries with illnesses.
Speaking at Fada Primary Health Care Centre in Bauchi, a technical assistant to Pate, Dr. Ashiru Adamu Abubakar, said that the Minister has decided to assist the people as many of them are unable to shoulder their medical bills.
The beneficiaries were attended to at Kobi, Fada Primary Health Care Facility, and Triwum community.
Abubakar said that the outreach is the 11th Medical Outreach conducted since July across about 10 LGAs with 15,000 patients and 100 patients operated on.
“This 11th is supposed to be also a joint one with both medical and surgical interventions. For the surgical intervention, we are hoping to have about 100 surgeries, both minor and major,” he said.
“And then, at least about 20 to 30 cataract extractions, we expect to provide reading glasses to about 50 or more patients, depending on the bandwidth
“There is free medication, consultation, and radiological investigations, among many other interventions that we hope to do. These are all coming as a kind gesture from the Coordinating Minister to the people of Bauchi. And it’s been done in collaboration with the Nigerian Medical Association and other professional associations.”
