Rotary marks World Polio Day with rally

FOLLOWING reports that Nigeria has recently been out of the polio endemic countries, Rotary international district 9110 Polio Plus Committee in partnership with the Nigeria National Polio Plus Committee is set to hold a polio rally to mark the world polio day on October, 24th, 2015 at the Rotary Center in Lagos.

Polio-ChildrenFOLLOWING reports that Nigeria has recently been out of the polio endemic countries, Rotary international district 9110 Polio Plus Committee in partnership with the Nigeria National Polio Plus Committee is set to hold a polio rally to mark the world polio day on October, 24th, 2015 at the Rotary Center in Lagos.

The weeklong activity is designed to sensitize Nigerians on the task ahead in the last lap of polio eradication in the country and Africa at large.

On Saturday, October 24th, 2015, Nigeria along with other countries of the world will mark world polio day, to commemorate the birth of Jonas Salk, the man who led the first team to develop a vaccine against poliomyelitis.
In a statement signed by the Chairman, District Polio Plus Committee, Harry Ladapo, he said, Rotary’s promise made to children of the world, 30 years ago to end polio is just an inch to the finish line.

According to him, Rotary has funded with 1.8 billion US dollars and unquantifiable volunteer man-hour to ensure the immunization of over two billion children worldwide.

With its 110 years of existence, it is the only humanitarian service organization with a permanent seat at the United Nations (UN), and it has engaged in unprecedented humanitarian, philanthropic and community development activities, especially the frontal engagement to eradicate polio globally.

The district 9110 has 82 clubs both in Lagos and Ogun States of the country.
Rotary International is the largest humanitarian service organization and has its headquarters in Evanston, Illinois, United States of America (USA).
