To commemorate World Health Day observed on April 7, the Junior Chambers International (JCI) organised a medical outreach for residents of Ipodo community in Ikeja, Lagos.

With the theme: “Universal Health Coverage,” the outreach, which held at the Palace of the Oba of Ikejaland, had such medical services as dental and eye checks, consultations, diagnoses and tests, including free drugs to over 200 beneficiaries.

The Local President, JCI Ikeja 2018, Ligali Oluwatosin, said: “Our aim is to add value to people’s lives and this is our avenue for achieving this. We have chosen residents within the age bracket of 30 to 65 years. We believe these are people that run the economy. They move out and work everyday without paying much attention to their health.”

Saying that government cannot do it alone with over 200million population, Oluwatosin said: “If every group gives back in its own little way, then it will make a whole lot of difference.”

The Chairman, Commit2health Committee, Dr. Adeniji Ilori, who said it is important for people to have access to healthcare services, explained that they brought health down to the people in the community to let them understand the importance of checkups and treatments.
