How Honour Ndah found passion in SME consulting

In a socio-economic climate where entrepreneurship is often born out of necessity rather than choice, few individuals manage to convert adversity into sustainable opportunity. Honour E. Ndah is one of such individual, a resilient Nigerian woman whose journey from failed attempts of securing graduate trainee positions in top firms to becoming a respected voice in SME consulting has inspired many across the country. Her story is one of quiet revolution of how personal setbacks, when embraced with tenacity and vision, can serve as a launchpad for national undeniable impact. Today, Honour is recognized not only as a business strategist and SME consultant but also as a mentor, advocate, and champion for inclusive enterprise development.

Honour’s foray into SME consulting began in her early twenties with volunteering that arose from her unwillingness to stay idle after graduation and several regret mails at the last stages of recruitment processes. In her own words, “I had always dreamt of securing a job in a multinational immediately after school and right before my eyes, I saw that dream crumble like a pack of cards.

Not to stay idle, I began volunteering for stock-taking and record keeping for SMEs, and that was where it ticked, SMEs had such structural problems that I was eager to solve, or at least ameliorate.” This realization became the bedrock of her consulting practice: equipping aspiring and existing entrepreneurs with the tools they need to thrive in an increasingly competitive market. While many might have retreated into safer career paths, she had immersed herself in the world of small and medium enterprises.

Honour Ndah went on to upskill in financial modeling, digital tools, strategy, and soon began providing advisory services to micro and small business owners. In 2019, she formally launched her SME consulting firm, with a mission to democratize access to business support services for underserved entrepreneurs.

Over the years, she has advised more than 100 SMEs across Nigeria, spanning industries such as agribusiness, fashion, retail, digital media, and education. Her firm provides a full suite of services including business planning, funding readiness, market entry strategies, financial literacy training, and regulatory compliance support.

What makes her approach unique, according to clients, is her ability to blend strategic expertise with empathy. She is known for her “people-first” consulting style, where the entrepreneur is seen not just as a client, but as a co-creator of their business success story.

Championing Youth and Women Entrepreneurs

Driven by her own experience as a young woman navigating the harsh realities of entrepreneurship, Honour has made it her mission to amplify the voices of youths and women in entrepreneurship, through community outreach programmes on different NGO and religious platforms. She is also a vocal advocate for financial inclusion and the formalization of informal businesses, particularly in underserved communities. Her collaboration with local NGOs and microfinance institutions has led to targeted interventions for rural women, enabling them to access credit, register their businesses, and reach wider markets.

“For me, the true reward is watching someone walk into my office with uncertainty and walk out with clarity and a roadmap,” she says.

Honour E. Ndah’s story is, ultimately, not just about success. It is about transformation, the kind that begins within and extends outward, empowering others to believe that they too can turn their lemons into lemonade
