Igbobi College old boys unlock N1b donation to mark 90th anniversary 

To commemorate 90 years anniversary of the school, Igbobi College Old Boys’ Association (ICOBA) has commenced plans to donate N1billion worth of projects to their alma mater.

Igbobi College was founded on February 2, 1932 by the Anglican and Methodist Churches.

Speaking at the ICOBA community hymns singing organised by the 1979 and 1997 sets in Lagos, recently, the old students, led by their President, Olumuyiwa Kinoshi, said the effort towards the donations was to enhance infrastructural development and quality of education in the college.

He lauded the college for the 90 years journey of positively influencing and instilling discipline in her students, adding that the institution has become a point of reference in terms of breeding the next generation of future leaders.

In his welcome address, the principal organiser of the event, Ebun Bamgboye, said the hymns singing, which was part of the year-long programmes of the college, was a way of bringing back old memories of what they were accustomed to during their days in the college.

On what brought about the initiative of the N1billion donation, Bamgboye said it was a payback time for old students who benefited from the rich repertoire of culture and knowledge to give back to their alma mater.

He further said their gesture was to continue sustaining the legacy of the school to improve on the performance of more generations to come.

Femi Olubanwo, a member of class 1974/76 set, explained that the association has prioritised the use of N1billion for some projects that would be beneficial to the students and the school management.

He listed the projects to include sport centre, e-library, and renovation of dining hall as well as boarding facilities.

“Over the years, the old boys association and different associations had spent nearly N5billion on the school, but it is a never-ending project because there are things that need to be done.  There are facilities that were built in the 70s and 80s that now need to be renovated and we can’t leave them to the school to do.”

The Principal of the school, Adedotun Akanbi, expressed gratitude to members of ICOBA for the love they have been showing to the college.

At the event held in Lagos Island, members of the association were thrilled to series of hymns singing, which lasted for three hours and led by some appointed old students of the association.
