Inclusive education to get a boost in Lagos State

To ensure inclusive education of children with special needs, an operational implementation guide has been produced to ensure all stakeholders involved in raising these children are equipped with the right information to help them thrive.

To ensure inclusive education of children with special needs, an operational implementation guide has been produced to ensure all stakeholders involved in raising these children are equipped with the right information to help them thrive.

The guide which is a product of the Kudirat Initiative for Democracy (KIND) under its VOICE influencing project was officially launched recently in Lagos. Parents, teachers as well as government functionaries were present and got copies of the guide which is available to all inclusive schooling units in the state.

According to the social protection consultant to KIND, Prof. Aderibigbe Olomola, he said that the attempt is to ensure that its operation is at optimum level and inclusive schools operate at high levels of functionality.

“We stakeholders realised that the absence of an implementation guide is one of the obstacles, so there is a need to provide one.The guide also contains areas of growth and development required in every inclusive unit in the state, and gives government a guide to helping out when the need arises.”

While Education Secretary to Kosofe Local government, Tunde Soleye, stressed that the policy guide by KIND will further help them do more especially with advocacy in their communities, this way parents are aware there is an avenue for challenged children to be educated and not necessarily be kept at home.
