It is time for PFN to reclaim its relevance, says Abam

Apostle Israel W. Abam, Senior Pastor, Guiding Light Assembly, Abuja Worship Centre, was recently inaugurated the 10th Chairman, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter.

Speaking shortly after the inauguration, which was conducted by the National Inauguration Chairman and Archbishop, Calvary Kingdom Church, Lagos State, Archbishop Joseph Ojo in the presence of the National Vice President, FCT Zone, Rev. Dr. Victor Ogunkanmi, Abam said that one of his goals is to ensure that PFN regains its relevance in the country.

“We want to make PFN relevant to itself. We want to make PFN relevant to its membership. We want to make PFN relevant to the communities where we function.

“We want to make PFN relevant politically without being bipartisan. We want PFN to be able to tell its story also because we have not told our story. People have hijacked it from us.”

Abam decried that over the years, the Fellowship allowed its story to be told by others, who created narratives that completely destroyed the essence and far-reaching positive impacts it has made.

“Today, we hold no one to blame but ourselves for that error. Henceforth, we are determined to correct that error, which is to tell our story, and tell it compellingly well, bringing all to realise that PFN, its member churches and ministries will continue to play whatever role it has played in the past for the survival, progress and prosperity of our land.”

He added that PFN has daily affected the lives of millions of Nigerians positively and as such, should be giving its place of honour in the affairs of the country.

“We deserve to be heard in policies and matters of governance in this nation. We must be consulted when issues that impact the lives of millions of our people are being considered. It is the right thing to do.”

He believes that the mantle of leadership bestowed on him will afford him and his team the opportunity to change PFN in the next four years.

“We will let the public know that we are integral part of the society and that every day, we have been a blessing to millions of Nigerians across the country. So, this is what we set out to do by the grace of God.”

The new chairman also used the occasion to admonish Christians to put their differences aside and stand together as one in love, stressing that it is only by so doing that the Church can make a profound difference in the country. Worried that Nigeria has been tagged a corrupt country, Abam believed that the country can still reclaim its past glory if the church stand united in prayers against the “monster.”

Abam also expressed concerns over the deteriorating security situation in FCT, stressed that some of their member churches no longer operate as a result of incessant kidnapping and armed robbery activities.

He, therefore, urged the FCT Minister, Nyeson Nkweke, to completely eradicate the criminal story of FCT and bring perpetrators to justice.

FCT, as the seat of the Federal Government, must be overwhelmingly secure and peaceful for every resident to go about their legitimate endeavours without the fear of being kidnapped.

“We believe that the present FCT administration under Wike has what it takes to completely eradicate this criminal story and bring perpetrators to justice. FCT as a seat of government must be overwhelmingly secure and peaceful for every resident to go about their legitimate endeavors without the fear of being kidnapped”, he said.

He also used the occasion to speak on some coming events, including the award ceremony later in the month.

“On October 19, the FCT chapter will honour some of our founding fathers and others that have contributed positively to the progress of this chapter. Also, on October 27, the national body would be honouring some prominent Nigerians who have in no small measure, helped the fellowship to achieve its objectives.

The inauguration, which held at the House on the Rock Church, Abuja, was attended by many dignitaries, past leadership of PFN at both FCT and national levels, families and friends of Apostle Abam.
