3 charged with robbing man at gun-point

Three unemployed men -- Olawale Babalola, Oluwafemi Olawale and Akeem Mukaila -- were on Wednesday arraigned in Lagos on charges of robbing a man of his goods at gun-point.

Babalola, 22, Olawale, 27 and Mukaila, 23, whose addresses were not disclosed, are being tried for conspiracy and stealing at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Olatunde, told the court that the accused committed the offences on June 7 at Ibese, Owode, Ikorodu, Lagos.

Olatunde said that the accused conspired to rob one Mr Olarenwaju Oyedumade of his goods valued at N250,000.

He said that the accused unlawfully entered the complainant’s shop with guns, and threatened to shoot him if he refused to comply.

“The trio entered the complainant’s shop and pointed guns at him, threatened to kill him if he refused to cooperate.

“They carted away varieties of phones valued N250,000,” he said.
According to the prosecutor, the complainant sighted the accused in Ikorodu, after three months of the robbery.

The offences, Olatunde said, contravened Sections 285, 297 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 297 prescribes a 20- year jail term as penalty for offenders.

The accused pleaded innocence of the offences and were granted bail in the sum of N100,000 each, with one surety each in like sum.

The Magistrate, Mr O.A. Aka-Bashorun, adjourned the case till Nov. 11 for mention.
