The committee on implementation of the National Anti – Corruption (NACS 2017 – 21), has submitted the report of its maiden baseline assessment visits to the Federal Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN). Chairman of the committee, Andrew Gandu, disclosed this during the committee’s interactive capacity building meeting in Abuja.

He stressed that the AGF is expected to submit the report to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) as a working document to guide the Federal Government on the march towards zero -tolerance on corruption.

Gandu further said that members of the Monitoring and Evaluation (M & E) committee would commence the second round of the assessment of the MDAs within the next one-month.

The Federal Executive Council, presided over by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, had approved NACS in May 2017, during the council’s sitting.

The maiden visits to the MDAs were carried out last year by the 22 – member committee. It is a means of tackling corruption in Nigeria at that level of government business by ensuring that the deliverables are statutorily carried out in accordance to the laid down procedures.

Gandu said that the acknowledgement received from the minister on the report was impressive, adding that despite the initial delay caused by the novel Coronavirus (COVID -19) pandemic and the national lockdown in 2020, the report was finally prepared and submitted.

He noted the contribution of the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) with the funding support of the MacArthur Foundation to the success of the meeting.

Gandu also commended the Secretariat of the committee at the Technical Unit on Governance and Anti -Corruption Reforms (TUGAR), headed by Ms. Lilian Ekeanyanwu, for their efforts towards the production of the report and secretariat’s duties.

Ekeanyanwu, represented by a senior official of TUGAR, Mrs. Jane Onwumere, commended the members and the facilitator, Dr. Ejiro Otive – Igbuzor, for their dedication, while the Director of CDD, Idayat Hassan, represented by a programme officer, Abiola Olakunle, pledged future collaboration with the committee.

In her presentation, Dr. Ejiro Otive – Igbuzor spoke on the imperativeness of inputs, outcomes and impacts in the Monitoring and Evaluation exercise.

She also urged members to be guided by the Theory of Change (ToC), as they embark on future national assignment.

Members of the committee were inaugurated by the AGF, in 2018 and selected from the MDAs, the Civil Society Organisations and the Media.
