Displaced residents of Badagry demolition have prayed the Lagos division of the Court of Appeal, Igbosere, Lagos to hear their case of human rights abuses before it.

In the appeal, the new counsel to the displaced residents, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, said the residents of Atinporomeh community, Araromi Ale Extention community and Mowo phase 2 community in Badagry area of Lagos State, are seeking for justice over abuse of their rights and unlawful demolition of their buildings.

The respondents in the case include: the Lagos State Task Force on Environment, Attorney General of Lagos State, Police, Attorney of the Federation and others.

The appellants, led by Chief Charles Adu through their counsel, Adegboruwa, prayed the court to rely on information and evidences before it, which are purely based on wrongful demolition and fundamental rights abuses.
Presiding judge, Justice Sidi Dauda Bage, noted that the court was informed about the change in counsel by the appellants.

Counsel, thereafter prayed the court to hear the case and uphold the information and evidences before it.
Also present in court is the Director of Civil Litigation, E O. Oyenuga, who is representing respondents 1-4.

Lagos State government, in its argument said that the court has no jurisdiction to hear the case and as such should set it aside.

The Inspector General of Police and Attorney General of the Federation, were not represented despite evidences that they were served with notices.

The appellants are asking for justice and compensation over damages to their rights and what they described as unlawful and wrongful invasion and demolition of over 1500 houses belonging to them by over 100 armed police officers from the Lagos State Task Force which put everybody under siege on December 16, 2013.
The displaced residents are claiming the sum of N100 billion as compensation.
