The lawyer to Maroko evictees living in Ikota Low-Cost Housing Estate, Adeyemi Abijo has urged the court to restrict the developers from demolishing the houses of the residents of Ikota Low-Cost Housing Estate in Eti Osa Local Council of Lagos State.
He also urged the residents who are Maroko evictees and others to be law-abiding citizens and eschew all acts of violence pending the determination of their case in court.
Addressing worried residents, apprehensive of the demolition of their homes, he said: “I think they should not be violent. It would disturb the peace of the community. The best way around it is to ask the court to order parties to stop any activities on site.
“And that is what we are working towards now. We hope to get the court to respond to it next week. As soon as the court makes an order, that would be the solution to the challenges.”
He said the developers need to be stopped so they can find a middle ground and negotiate with the landowners.
“That would be better compared to when the developers freely do what they want and the residents are forced to agree with it.
“So, we need a court order to stop all activities pending the time when the case will be completed,” he explained.
