The Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources is collaborating with the Lawyers in Energy Network (LIEN) as the anchor partner for the 2026 Lawyers in Energy International Conference and Awards (LEICA).
The partnership is aimed at strengthening legal and regulatory frameworks for Nigeria’s energy sector.
LIEN Executive Secretary, Ms Raqeebah Oloko, in a statement, described it as a demonstration of the ministry’s commitment to promoting dialogue, collaboration and sustainable growth in the country’s energy industry.
According to her, the conference, scheduled for July 13 and 14, 2026, at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos, will bring together legal practitioners, policymakers, regulators, judges, business executives, investors, academics and energy professionals from across Africa and beyond.
The conference has the theme: “Net Zero, Energy Law and Regulatory Reform: Managing Risk and Unlocking Opportunity in a Carbon-Constrained Energy Market.”
Oloko said the conference would examine legal and regulatory reforms required to help African countries navigate the global energy transition while protecting the continent’s development priorities.
She added that a major highlight of the conference would be the keynote address by the Secretary General of the African Petroleum Producers’ Organisation (APPO), Mr Farid Ghezali.
Ghezali will provide insights into Africa’s evolving energy landscape, regional cooperation, investment opportunities and the role of legal and regulatory frameworks in achieving an equitable and practical energy transition.
LIEN Chairman, George Etomi, said LEICA had become one of Africa’s leading platforms for discussions on energy law, policy and regulation.
“As countries balance energy security, sustainability and economic growth, there is an urgent need for legal and regulatory systems that inspire investor confidence while supporting innovation and responsible resource development.
“LEICA 2026 will bring together the brightest minds to shape solutions for Africa’s energy future,” Etomi said.
The conference programme would feature plenary sessions, panel discussions, technical sessions, networking events and the LEICA Awards, which recognise organisations and individuals making significant contributions to the energy industry.
The statement said participants would deliberate on energy sector reforms for a net-zero transition, regulatory certainty and investment protection, carbon markets, climate finance, environmental, social and governance (ESG) regulation, dispute resolution in carbon-constrained energy markets, and emerging trends in petroleum, gas, power and renewable energy regulation.
Other discussion areas include the future of energy law in Africa, regional integration and cross-border energy investment.
The statement said LEICA 2026 is expected to attract delegates from government institutions, regulatory agencies, international organisations, energy companies, law firms, financial institutions, development partners, academia and civil society.
The conference would also provide opportunities for strategic partnerships, business networking, knowledge exchange and professional development, while celebrating excellence through LEICA awards.
