Cattle RustlersThe Katsina Police Command said on Wednesday that it had arrested no fewer than 280 suspected cattle rustlers since May.

The state Police Commissioner, Alhaji Usman Abdullahi, stated this in Katsina while briefing the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of Logistics and Supply, Alhaji Mamman Tsafe, on the successes so far recorded by the command.

He said that 182 persons were prosecuted and were currently serving various jail terms while others were waiting trial.

Abdullahi said that the police recovered 102 cows, 586 sheep, 56 goats, two camels and one donkey during the period under review.

According to him, the animals were returned to their owners.

The police boss said that the Force also recovered five rifles, ammunitions and other dangerous weapons from the suspects.

“To forestall further cattle theft, the command has established 19 anti-cattle rustling camps in the state and deployed 290 policemen to manage their operations,” he said.

The commissioner, however, cautioned police officers against acts of corruption.
