The Faculty of Communication and Media Studies Federal University Oye-Ekiti will host its Maiden Empowerment Series, organised in collaboration with the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN).
According to host of the workshop, Prof. Chika E. Asogwa, Dean, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, it is themed, ‘Media Entrepreneurship: Turning Communication Skills into Sustainable Ventures.’
She said the event, scheduled to hold on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at the Fasina Conference Centre. Programme starts at 10:00am.
According to Asogwa, the series will focus on empowering participants to harness their communication expertise for impactful and profitable initiatives.
“This engaging session will offer a platform for knowledge exchange, skill development, and networking, making it highly impactful for audiences across fields. The workshop aims to equip participants, made up of professionals, academics, and students from the south-west zone, with essential skills in media entrepreneurship and business development, empowering them to create sustainable media ventures and innovative business models,” she said.
Participants can look forward to gaining valuable insights from the guest speaker, Ambassador Wale Ojo-Lanre — a distinguished communicator, legal practitioner, and the current Director-General of the Ekiti State Tourism Bureau.
Ojo-Lanre has held key leadership roles, including Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Ekiti State and Director-General of the Ekiti State Council for Arts and Culture. With a career spanning journalism, legal practice, and tourism, he has received numerous awards, including the National Tourism Award and the Africa Travel Award. He holds an LLB, a Master’s in Peace and Conflict Studies, and various diplomas, including in Journalism and Green Growth. Ojo-Lanre is also the President of the Guild of Tourism Journalists in Nigeria and a Goodwill Tourism Ambassador for Cote D’Ivoire.
The President of ACSPN, Professor Rotimi Olatunji, will also be present to deliver key contributions during the session.
Chief host is Prof. Olubunmi Shittu, Acting Vice Chancellor, Federal University Oye-Ekiti while Dr. Abari Ogah, Head of Department, Department of Mass Communication, Federal University Oye-Ekiti is co-host.
Special guest is Mr. Lanre Arogundade, Vice President, Southwest, Association of Communication Scholars & Practitioners of Nigeria (ACSPN).
