THE National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) has concluded arrangement to host its annual marketing week and general meeting. While making the announcement in Lagos last week, President of the institute, Mr. Ganiyu Koledoye said the week, which would start in November 21 with chapters’ activities across the country, would terminate with a gala nite in Enugu on November 28.

Some of the activities lined up for the week include the Mike Agbakoba lecture with the theme, ‘Building a Sustainable Future: Marketing as an Instrument of Change,’ which would be held in Lagos on November 24.

The 2015 annual marketing conference with the theme, ‘The Paradigm Shift in Nigeria’s Development Equation: The Role of Micromarketing as Catalyst for Establishing Enduring SMEs’ will be held in Enugu on November 26, Unilever Best Marketing Students Award and then the Awards and Dinner.

According to Koledoye, the theme of the annual conference was to inform Nigerians on the appropriate ways of tackling micro, small and medium scale enterprises, which he said was critical to moving the country forward.

The marketing expert urged government to harness the potentials in different sectors of the economy, as this would help create jobs for the unemployed. He added that government must be prepared to adopt marketing strategies that were necessary to make this become into reality.

He also said that the institute was taking steps to reorganise its existing structure by pruning down the number of its directorates from seven to three with a view to achieving a lean and efficient institute.

To reduce quackery in the profession, Koledoye said the institute had commenced measures aimed at reducing the menace to the barest minimum through auditing its members and fellows.

In a related development, the Institute’s proper Annual General Meeting election would be conducted to fill the positions of 1st and 2nd Vice Presidents, which would be become vacant. Chairman of the 2015 NIMN Election Committee Mr. Chidi Nwankpa stated that in line with NIMN Act 2003 Section 1, Subsection 2, the election of the two Vice Presidents would take place in Enugu during the AGM while the manifesto night would hold on November 27 and the election on November 28.

He, therefore, called for nominations for the two offices from September 21 to close October 20. Those eligible to contest, he said, were members who had been fellows for a minimum of 10 years. Other members of the Election Committee are Mr. Oladele Adeola, Mr. Mike Abisini and legal adviser Mr. Adeola Lema. Koledoye, however, called for reduction in the cost of governance in the country, saying it was key to achieving meaningful results.

He added, “The political machinery of the country has to be restructured in such a manner to reduce the cost of governance. How that is going to be achieved I do not know”.
