MKAN steps up on campaign against crime in schools
Due to incessant criminal offence in the society, the Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya Nigeria (MKAN), the male youth wing of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Nigeria, has embarked on nationwide campaigns against various forms of crimes among the students of secondary and post-secondary schools.
National President of the Organisation, Engr. Aina Saheed, said efforts are being put in place by the government and other institutions to fight against the menace of crimes.
“Unfortunately, as they make these efforts, the available statistics on these crimes keep growing. Due to high crime rate, the group has acknowledged the need to accelerate efforts to build the moral and spiritual capacity of members of the society, especially the youths, in order for them to become immune from attraction to crimes.
“MKAN recognizes the need for concerted efforts from both the government and non-state actors in the fight against crimes among the youths. This, among other things, is expected to prepare the youths for a future free of crime”
The National Project Manager of the Stop The Crime (STC) project, Popoola Isiaka Olamilekan said, the MKAN’s STC project started in 2015 and since then, it has become a yearly event.
“ This year, the campaign project was carried out in ten states of the federation Ekiti, Edo, Delta, Kaduna, Kano, Kwara, Ogun, Osun, Lagos, Oyo and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Our 344 volunteers were able to visit 40 schools, spent 55 hours and reached out to 17,180 beneficiaries.
“In the cause of this project, we were able to identify that there is a nexus between crime, poverty, unemployment and corruption”
The group implore the government at all levels to work more on the provision of jobs for the youth, continue the fight against corruption and alleviate the masses from the shackles of poverty” he said.
The Stop The Crime project is one of the numerous projects of the Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya Nigeria. Other projects of the organisation include free medical expeditions, regular blood donations, tree planting, organisation of capacity building trainings, promotion of talents among youth, promotion of inter-religious peaceful coexistence, carrying out numerous community-based supports, among others, he added.
