The 23rd matriculation of over 5000 new students by the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State has brought the present student population of the school to over 35,000.
The admitted new students comprised undergraduates and postgraduates, who are to undertake courses in various disciplines.
Addressing the students, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Hilary Odo Edeoga enjoined them to do all they can to chart a bright and secure future for themselves, saying the matriculation is just the beginning of a journey, which demands hard work, dedication, diligence, discipline and faith in God.
He stressed that the rights and privileges of any student could be withdrawn if his/her behaviours are inimical to the well-being of the school.
According to Edeoga, MOUA will equip them for the challenges inherent in the global society, as the school’s curricula, in all the courses, are structured to make students not only self-employable but also job and wealth creators on graduation.
He urged them to avail themselves of the opportunities provided for them to lay solid foundation that will enable them succeed in life.
He added that to satisfy the desires of students, his administration has expanded the academic disciplines complemented with increase in the number of teaching and non-teaching staff, including the construction of a world-class central laboratory.
