MTN Foundation launches project to check mother, child mortality Nigeria
To check the rising rate of maternal and child mortality in the country, a leading mobile telecommunications giant, MTN’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm, MTN Foundation, has flagged off a partnership health education sensitisation programme with the Federal Ministry of Health to assist intending mothers overcome challenges leading to death of mothers and children during or after birth.
The programme known as Yellow Heart was launched in Abuja by the Minister of Health , Prof. Isaac Adewole. The objective is aimed at “ drastically reduce the prevalence of deaths of women and children by providing access to quality heath care for less privileged women and children in the society who otherwise would have no access,” according to the Chairman of MTN Foundation, Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi..
The Health Minister, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr.Osarenoma Clement Uwaifo commended the intervention of MTN Foundation and asked other organized private sector groups to emulate the telecommunication giant in the service delivery function of Government. He gave further insight into the project: “The YellowHeart Initiative is an alliance of MTN Foundation with strategic partnerships across private, public and non-profit sectors aimed at addressing the poor maternal and child health indices in Nigeria. The initiative is set up to address the high maternal and child mortality through targeted interventions especially among vulnerable and indigent families across select locations in Nigeria.

It is in working together collaboratively,; private, public, private, and non-profit sectorsparties, that we can improve the health and survival rate of women and children stem the alarming rates of maternal and child mortality in Nigeria, adding that through the launch of a new Mother and Child project; the #YellowHeart initiative was an attempt to salvage the ugly situation.
He spoke more : “ We are truly excited to be a part of this movement; We stand with and applaud the Federal Government through and the Ministry of Health, as they champion this project which will create the much-needed awareness for improving maternal and infant health in our nation. We are truly excited to be a part of this movement; the YellowHeart movement, to change the narrative about maternal and infant mortality in Nigeria through the provision of health education and comprehensive facilities.
