NCC trains private varsity staff on ICT

International Centre for Information and Communication Technology, Digital Bridge Institute, a subsidiary of the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), has concluded a five-day training workshop for staffers of Samuel Adegboyega University (SAU), Ogwa, Edo State, on Advanced Appreciation Programme for Tertiary Institutions (ADAPTI).

ADAPTI, which started in 2006, is a special training programme sponsored by the NCC, for tertiary institutions in Nigeria, to enhance the skills and knowledge of university community in the area of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

Vice chancellor of the institution, Professor Eronmonsele Aigbokhan, while declaring open the training, held at the Computer-Based Centre (CBT) of the university, affirmed that in pursuance of the vision of the university, the management was putting in place necessary modalities for globalised classrooms, lecture theatres, for staff and students of the university.

He described ICT as a relevant tool for globalisation and actualisation of the university’s world-class vision, and commended the NCC for choosing SAU as one of the beneficiary universities.

Aigbokhan said that digital communication could proffer a way forward to access to quality education through e-learning.

Highlighting other benefits, Aigbokhan said that through digital communication, the tedious and time-consuming methods of processing results have become easier and faster.

The vice chancellor affirmed that the strength of a university was not only in its buildings, but also in people. He therefore, called on the staff to endeavor to develop themselves at every opportunity, promising that the university would continue to support them.

Leader of the four-man team, Ohia Omiri, disclosed that ADAPTI had been organised in several higher institutions in the country to make participants highly computer inclined in discharging their duties.

Omiri expressed his satisfaction towards the attitude of all participants, in discipline and character at the training. He said that SAU has indeed shown that it truly nurtures for discipline and excellence.
