Deputy Managing Director (Academics), Nigerian Turkish International Colleges (NTIC), Mr. Sabri Unal, says Nigeria has what it takes to produce the likes of co-founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates and other famous technopreneurs.

Sharing his thoughts after his school’s participation in the recently held International Science Olympiad (ISO) in Nigeria and abroad, Unal said with the right environment, adequate exposure, good guidance and the right opportunity, Nigerian youths can actually excel in all areas of scientific studies and put the country in the limelight.

Being one of the organisers of the ISO over the years, during which period NTIC won 45 gold, 50 silver and 71 bronze medals, the education administrator says this is a confirmation of the capacity of Nigerian youths to excel globally.

He said, “NTIC is the pioneer organiser of the ISO, an international competition in science subjects including mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer science and biology, with more than 20 participating countries from around the world including, Nigeria, Romania, The Netherlands, Argentina, Colombia, Ivory Coast, Senegal, South Africa, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kenya, Bosnia & Herzegovina and the United States.

“Series of competitions and observations have confirmed that a high number of Nigerian youths can excel in all areas of science and put Nigeria in the top league among nations, if rightly exposed. Evidence abound in our students that have excelled at competitions such as the Informatrix International Computer Project Olympiad, International Art Competition, International Mathematical Olympiad, Pan African Mathematics Olympiad, International Science and Environmental Project Competitions, among others,” Unal informed.

The deputy managing director said in addition to the school’s innovative and challenging curriculum, designed to nurture each child’s potentials, “We also provide opportunities for 30, 000 students to compete for 30 to 100 per cent scholarship slots annually, while our “Cabinet System” of classroom settings facilitates students’ concentration in dedicated classes for each subject.”

Founded in Abuja in 1998, NTIC, an international school run by Turks and Nigerians, expanded to 16 branches from pre-nursery to senior secondary schools in Abuja, Yobe, Kano, Ogun, Kaduna and Lagos states.
