Ondo state government has promoted no fewer than 2,500 teaching and non-teaching staff of the state’s Teaching Commission (TESCOM) and has also directed recruitment of additional 1,050 teachers.
Speaking at the stakeholders meeting in Akure, the governor of the state, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, said his administration would do everything within its power to encourage teachers, as it would enable them to perform optimally.
He said the promotion exercise is a clear demonstration of the commitment of the present administration to the welfare of the workers in the state.
He added that promotion is an employee’s reward for good performance, urging the beneficiaries to note that promotion is the recognition of their good deeds.
He said, “As we all know, education is the holistic training of the child to fully integrate him as a social being in the community. Hence, in every human society, the education industry takes the greatest investment of all and this has remained the guiding principle of my administration.”
He said the event was important because “it was meant to appreciate our men and women, who have continued to render selfless services and completely dedicated themselves to the upliftment of education in the state.”
He urged workers to reciprocate government’s gesture by ensuring that they put in their best in the discharge of their duties.
He further assured that his administration would continue to accord priority to workers welfare and ensure that teachers are well trained and rewarded.
Commending the governor for releasing funds for the promoted workers, the Commissioner for Education, Arc. Jide Adejuyigbe, appealed to the beneficiaries to justify the confidence reposed in them by reciprocating the kind gesture.
Earlier in his address, the TESCOM chairman, Prof. Francis Igbasan, informed that Mimiko’s administration has been promoting eligible teachers and non-teaching staff as at when due since 2009.
He said inter-cadre transfer, career reconstruction and conversion cases are being looked into and letters would be given to successful teachers within the shortest time.
Emphasising on the sanity Mimiko’s administration brought into the profession, he said since he assumed office three months ago, about three principals and 23 teachers have been placed on suspension for misdeeds.
