Ondo South appoints Malumi as senatorial leader

A medical practitioner who is also a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Dr. Taiwo Malumi, All Progressive Congress (APC) has been elected leader of Ondo South Senatorial District at a recently concluded meeting of the APC leadership in the senatorial zone.

Prior to the meeting, a number of the party’s leaders had expressed interest in the position, but all of them reached a consensus to support Dr. Malumi.

The senatorial leadership office which provides for two leaders also had Chief Adesanmi Olusola elected as the second leader.
Dr. Malumi was a nominee of three of the six local governments of Ilaje, Irele and Ese-Odo that formed the senatorial zone. 

This election of Dr. Malumi according to the party was a well deserved one in view of his “transparency, excellent leadership and selfless service to the community and the nation at large.”

Speaking after his election, Malumi said, “The people should continue to expect good governance from the All Progressives Congress.

According to him, job creation will continue to be a priority for the party. Also, as a leader in the Senatorial district, he acknowledged that power is a very vital challenge in his district, and promises to bring forth an intervention system in terms of investment and promised to meet all the stakeholders in the power sector value chain to ensure the communities are not neglected in terms of development.

The APC Chieftain described his election as a means to give back to his community; thereby assuring the communities altogether of his resolve to continue to support his senatorial zone and the state.

Malumi, who was represented by a former Chairman of Ilaje Local Government, Chief Anjorin Coker noted that his outstanding leadership and philanthropic activities endeared him to his community and that this “include his stance on transpar­ency and his anti-corruption crusade; his fight against the mis-use of OSOPADEC (Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission) funds; he pioneered health insurance programme and introduction of Medical Air Ambulance, the first in Africa in the country in 1994; provision of fully equipped medical center, drugs and medical equipment to health centers and provision of relief materials to some distressed communities in the senatorial zone, educational projects which include the provision of buildings and hostels; provision of Solar System Ozone Water Treatment plants for communities in Ilaje using the advanced technology due to the challenges of water supply in the communities; political and society reform programmes; donation of relief materials to the communities affected by the Ilaje-Ijaw conflicts.
