Unilag---CopyOver 200 copies of the book, The personal business Plan: a blue print for running your life, were on Thursday distributed to medical students of the University of Lagos by the TOMEB Foundation in partnership with ExxonMobil.

The books were distributed to the students during a one-day empowerment programme for final year students of College of Medicine, University of Lagos. Before they got the books, there were paper presentation by the Country Managing Director, Accenture, Mr. Niyi Yusuf, who spoke on the ‘Art and Science of Self Knowledge’; Dr. Ibipo Abdurraheem-Salami of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, delivered a paper on the ‘Principles and Practice of Goal Setting and Achieving them’ while the Managing Director/CEO, CRC Credit Bureau and founder of TOMEB Foundation, Mr. Tunde Popoola, had a presentation on ‘Dealing with Procrastination’.

Yusuf highlighted the importance of self discovery arguing that a student or graduate who had not discover his or her areas of strength, cannot put himself or herself in a position of making the society appreciate and pay for what he or she loves doing. He also stated that knowing ones situation helps such a person to plan better. He also enjoined the students to identify ad define what they are best act and when they are at the best point of doing things well and excellence. To him, these are critical to achieving success in life and in career.

Yusuf advised the students to regularly re-invent themselves as the tactics that made them success in a task may not apply in another and the strategy that made them a successful student may not work out fine when they get to the field of work place. He also believed that for the students to succeed and like all successful people, they must spend time on things that are important and not urgent.

On her part, Abdurraheem-Salami talked about goal setting and its importance to be successful in every endeavour. She said that those who write down their goal are likely to achieve their goals than those who do not. According to her this assumption has been supported by research.
