PupilsOlufunso Owosanwoye, founder of the Human Development Initiative (HDi), has given out exercise books, school bags, sandals, money for two pairs of uniform to over a hundred primary and secondary school pupils, while paying for the NECO examination fees of those in their final year.

The initiative according to Owosanwoye, was borne out of concern for a widow that came looking for a cleaning job with her teenage daughter, who should have been in school at that hour. “When I inquired why the daughter was not in school, she said she had four of them and that there was no money to send them to school.”

She continued: “Uniform for the daughter alone cost N1,500 without sandals or books. The whole money was just N2,700, I decided there and then that I was going to start a scheme for such people. When my 50th birthday came, I decided I didn’t want any party, I channelled that money to start this project alongside a few friends that believed in the scheme.

“We want government to help in the provision of text books. Though they say they give them textbooks, but it doesnt go round all the pupils in public schools.
