Pathcare Laboratories Limited, in partnership with Megalectrics Limited, operators of Classic FM 97.3, Beat FM99.9 and Naija FM 102.7, have carried out their 5th annual free medical mission for the grassroots at Alimosho LCDA.

Speaking on behalf of Megalectrics Ltd., Chukwuma “Chico” Aligwekwe, programme director of Classic FM 97.3, said the idea behind the medical mission and their aim so far might be extended to other parts of the state and the country in the nearest future.

“The idea is to make healthcare accessible to people, who might not be able to afford it,” he explained. “Our main partners for this event is Pathcare, who have a programme on Classic FM called “Doctors on Air,” but the local governments, where we undertake the mission, have also become sponsors and some other organisations have started jumping into the annual event, as well.”

The annual event was held on the premises of Alimosho Local Government office with no less than 1, 500 residents attended to. They also received medical counselling from a team of volunteer doctors involved in the exercise. Many people also accessed free eye test, HIV, cancer and hepatitis screening, as well as free drug.

Dr. Pamela Ajayi, founder of Pathcare Laboratories, urged Nigerians to get educated on various diseases, as early detection is the key. She also called on more sponsors for the initiative, so that more of the less privileged can be reached.

She said: “We want to give back to the society and ensure the less privileged in our society access the benefits available to others. The “Doctors on Air programme is an educational programme, where we also educate them on various conditions. So many diseases can be managed and stopped early, if only people were educated. We have had testimonies of people listening to the show and how it saved them from various diseases they did not otherwise know about. We have specialists and several pharmaceuticals companies giving out free drugs. It gets bigger yearly.”
