Police arrest robbery suspect, recover dollars, pounds

LAGOS State Police command has arrested a robbery suspect, who specialises in robbing Cash-in-Transit vans in Lagos, recovering a whooping 118,000 USD and 50,000 British Pounds.
The suspect, one Bolaji Oyekanmi, was pinned down by men of the Ilupeju Police station led by its Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Olayinka Egbeyemi, a Superintendent of Police, on the August 12, 2015.
The DPO led the suspect to the home of a native Doctor, where the money was being hidden at Mushin area of Lagos.
The money, which belongs to the Bankers Warehouse, was immediately handed over to the owners by the DPO on the orders of the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni.
The exemplary conduct of the DPO, Egbeyemi, who is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, was highly commended by the Bankers Warehouse management, from whom The Guardian gathered that the DPO and his policemen did not remove a kobo from the amount recovered.
“I have never seen policing in this way. Immediately the money was recovered by the DPO, it was handed over to us. He asked his anti-robbery team to escort us so that no hoodlum can attack us on the way.” A staff of the company said.
The suspect, who is still in police custody, would soon be charged to court.
Lagos State CP, Fatai Owoseni, confirmed the arrest and said investigation was ongoing.
