In a bid to re-shape and re-focus the Nigerian music industry through promotion of quality contents, Spread Entertainment Limited has launched a new initiative tagged ‘The Icon Reality Music Project’, a music talent hunt competition aimed at turning out complete musicians who are talented not just vocally but also in song writing, arrangement and instrumentation.

Speaking about the initiative at the reality show launch held at De Dome Event Centre, Enugu Project Director Spread Entertainment, Mr. Peter Anokwu said the outfit through the initiative will also develop various brands of Nigeria music and export to the world to educate and enlighten the youths, especially in Nigeria.

According to him, The Icon Reality Music Project will take music reality show to a new dimension in Nigeria, making it one of the country’s most innovative entertainment platforms. He pointed out that the company through the project aims to search for complete musicians with talent to be nurtured, developed and trained to become world class musicians.

He further explain that some of the most likely multiplier effect of the new dimension to reality shows is that it will help to re-shape the Nigerian music industry, promote content and quality in the present Nigerian music industry, develop various brands of music, export Nigeria’s original product to the world, and educate and enlighten the young Nigerian populace through music.

Anokwu disclosed that the winner of the show will go home a brand new customized IVM G6 SUV, a recording deal with an international record label and a chance to perform at the WEDEXPO 2016 in Amsterdam and the PMAN awards in Dubai, UAE in 2016, adding that there will also be consolation prizes for other particpants with the best song writing abilities, the best instrumentation and the best vocalist.

For afro-highlife singer and Oruka crooner, Sunny Neji, one of the judges said The Icon Reality Music Project will have positive impact on Nigerian youths, adding that the advent of technology has made most musicians abandon the basic essentials of music.

“In actual fact, many of our musicians lack stage craft, a downside to our burgeoning music industry that has ensured that a sizeable percentage of our musicians apart from recording their songs in the studio, cannot give world class performances on stage. Projects in the mold of ‘The Icon Reality Music Project’ should be encouraged by all stakeholders in the music industry, as it will be a platform through which all the identified lapses will be corrected while breaking new frontiers in the Nigerian entertainment industry,” he said.

Also, Kehinde Dacosta Lawrence (KDL) another judge of the show stated that the Icon reality project is designed to challenge many young musicians in Nigeria, especially those in the South East (Enugu) where the competition will be hosted, as such they should register and compete with contestants from other regions and come out tops so as to attract more investments in entertainment in the region.

According to the organisers, the competition is open to all who are musically talented with respect to singing, song writing, arrangement and instrumentation. Contestants will be picked from five zones including Enugu, Owerri, Port Harcourt, Abuja and Lagos to go through various stages of screening and elimination processes after which the final four will be selected through public participation votes for the grand finale schedule to hold at De Dome, Enugu.

These videos/audio recording will be used for the first stage of screening, while successful contestants will be invited to the stage two of the competition for further screening at the zonal level.
