Principal gives tips on how to boost pupils’ academic performance
In order to ensure effective learning, Principal, Wellspring College, Lagos, Mrs. Oluwayemisi Oloriade, wants education managers to take cognizance of the fact that children learn at different pace, and must be followed according to their learning capacities
Oloriade told The Guardian recently that it was in realisation of this that the school launched a coaching clinic to bridge the gap between below average students, and the ones that are above average.
She hinted that what makes a school stand out is its ability to identify the below average students and work on them to improve their performances.
Oloriade further explained that once the school observes that a child is academically challenged in a certain subject, he is put in the coaching clinic until he/she catches up with the rest of the class in the subject.
The principal, who claimed the strategy has tremendously helped the students to develop and improve their academic performances, added that academic successes recorded by it were due to abiding belief in God, adding that moral, integrity, dignity, discipline and academic excellence were the school’s guiding principles as they channel the students to God.
She also noted that the school emphasises writing, and encourage the students to develop their writing skills while also encouraging them to embrace good reading culture.
Oloriade, who maintained that the school recorded successes on many fronts in the outgone year despite the economic situation in the country, said it was already strategising for a greater 2017.
Steps along this line include trainings already lined up for teachers in the school to enable them continue to be globally relevant.
Plans are also afoot to add additional facilities to the school, while the management is still working on how to get the best out of the students in the new academic session.
