Nigerians have been tasked to promote unity and national integration while building on their cultural diversity to better the lives of citizens.

Nigerians have been tasked to promote unity and national integration while building on their cultural diversity to better the lives of citizens.

The Proprietor, Remilekun Nursery and Primary School and Remilekun International College, Tunde Oduwole, gave the advice during the 30th and 3rd-anniversary ceremonies of both institutions in Lagos.

Speaking on the importance of promoting Nigeria’s diverse cultures, Oduwole pointed out that such efforts are crucial in nation building and facilitate integration among different ethnic groups.

The proprietor identified failure to leverage on the nation’s rich cultural diversity as one of the factors that has precluded Nigerians from enjoying better lives as citizens.

“It’s imperative we promote our culture and the need for national integration in the society. This, we should inculcate in our children so that as they grow, they will help foster nation-building and national unity among individuals and diverse cultures,” he said.

He expressed hope that the coming government will realise its full potentials and wake up from its slumber to take its proper place among comity of nations.

On the anniversary, Oduwole said Remilekun Schools was the brainchild of his mother, late Florence Oduwole.

“We are grateful to God for where we are today. The visionary idea, which was planted 30 years ago, has germinated graciously into a giant seed.

“The trajectory down the years has really not been easy but thankfully, we have made tremendous progress despite the challenges of financing, cash crunch and others. By April, our secondary section will be three years, and this we can say is a work in positive progress,” he said.

The Tutor General/Permanent Secretary of Education District 2, Maryland, Lagos, Mrs Adenike Adekanye, commended the school for its promotion of cultural heritage, saying cultural activities bring people together in shared experiences.

“Our cultural heritage keeps our memory alive of how beliefs and cultures and other expressions, have contributed to the growth of the society,” she said.

Adekanye said it is only through appreciating each other that Nigerians can live in harmony and peace.   She encouraged the students to appreciate and embrace their cultural heritage.
