He said, “As leaders, the university wants you to be proud alumni since you will be graduating from an institution that has good reputation. You should be pragmatic in your dealings to the outside world, UNILAG is rated high as far as the African continent is concerned and this administration would not condone any form of oppression to any students by any lecturer as some of the erring teachers have been sanctioned in the past.”
He further urged them to work in consonance with the school’s management, and also resort to dialogue rather than violence in resolving issues that may emerge.
Dean of Students Affairs, Prof. Tunde Babawale, who urged them to be responsible leaders and lead aright added, “You can only justify the description of being the nation’s pride when you conduct your affairs with decorum and civility. You must conform with the university’s rules and regulations. The present administration is known to be student-friendly, yet it is not prepared to tolerate any form of hooliganism on the university campus. You are, therefore, advised to focus on your academics. This is the mission the VC intends to share with you and the mission he wants all of us to pursue.”
On behalf of his team, President of ULSU, Mr. Muhammed Olaniyan, pledged to be of good conduct and also work in harmony with the management of the institution, while ensuring that students’ welfare would remain uppermost on their agenda.
