Religious education, key to child upbringing, says Menakaya

Religion-kk-CopyChairperson of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the Apostolic Faith Secondary Schools, Dr. Ifeoma Menakaya, has stressed the need for parents to expose their children early in life to religious education, stressing that the reward for doing so cannot be over-emphasised.

In her remarks at the carol service organised by Junior Secondary One students of the school recently, Manakaya stated that making recourse to God in the raising of children remains a wise course of action.

Illustrating her submission with car-making, she said: “It is reasonable that I go to Toyota (if I am riding their car), should there be something amiss or needing clarification in the vehicle. So, it is rational that we should make recourse to God when we are raising our children. When we do that, it would surprise us how God would intervene on their behalf in difficult and complex circumstances where we would be at our wits’ end even as parents.”

Proprietor of schools and District Superintendent of the Apostolic Faith, Reverend Emmanuel Adebayo Adeniran, in his speech at the event called on political and opinion leaders to champion forthrightness and integrity in their lives so as to serve as worthy examples to the youths.

He noted that more than precepts and pontificating, leaders, as more visible members of the society, should live by example, which the youths would readily emulate, rather than always plunder the people’s commonwealth.

“If you teach me something and you do another thing, (you are) giving me the motivation to do what you are doing, because it would seem to me that what you are doing is more profitable than what you are teaching.”

Adeniran stressed that, “When we teach love to our children, either in the church, or school, or even at home, we would have a loving society where the leaders have regard for the people and would not steal our commonwealth. “
