Rotary Club of Lagos Central to join war against polio in Nigeria

THE Rotary Club of Lagos Central hosted the District Governor, Rotary International, District 9110, comprising Lagos and Ogun States, Otunba Bola Onabadejo and his entourage during his visit to 82 clubs under his jurisdiction at Tantalizers, Lagos.

Speaking at the occasion, Onabadejo disclosed that aside from broad vision for all clubs, every club, including Rotary Club of Lagos Central is expected to come up with their individual visions and map out strategies to develop them.

He said the role of the District Governor includes supporting and motivating all the clubs to achieve their goals and objectives.

He declared: “Generally for this Rotary year, emphasis is being placed on membership drive. Total number of members in the District is just a little over 2,000. We want to grow to a minimum of 3,000, which is a tall dream of fifty per cent growth. We also want to contribute more funds to Rotary Foundation. We want to raise a minimum of One million US dollars in the current Rotary year. These two issues are very vital and we would also want to support the clubs in executing their various projects, whether small, global or district projects, so that the world can be a better place for all of us.”
The governor also promised that support would be given to one of the clubs that would be championing the construction of an eye hospital in Lagos, adding that there would also be support for the district that wishes to establish a diabetic centre and a centre for the treatment of communicable diseases in Ijebu and Badagry.

According to him, it is going to attract a global grant with the Rotary Foundation giving out some money to swell the fund that would be collected from our Rotary partners from other Districts.

“This is our major focus for this year” he said, even as he described Rotary Club of Lagos Central as a good club.

The host, President, Rotary Club of Lagos Central, Ayinde Idowu Emmanuel, said the vision of the club in the Rotary year include aligning with the vision of Rotary International to eradicate polio in Nigeria with the contribution of One thousand dollars, the next being working vigorously on membership drive.

The President said, in addition to the previous administration projects of donation of benches to a School in Agege and donation of laboratory equipment to Eko Akete Secondary School in Lagos, the Club in this service year would be sinking a borehole in Anglican Primary School, Abeokuta in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Obantoko, Abeokuta as well as another one in Eko-Akete, Lagos island.
