NB Plc refurbishes facilities at Surulere PHC Centre

To further strengthen its bonds with Surulere residents, Nigerian Breweries Plc. (NB) recently commissioned renovated facilities at vAkerele Primary Health Care Center in Surulere, Lagos.

The Corporate Affair Adviser of Nigeria Breweries Plc., Mr. Kufre Ekanea, said the renovation was to improve the health care of patients by providing accessible and affordable facilities within their reach; impact on the welfare of residents in Surulere. According to him, as a company with its birthplace in Lagos, NB Plc has a massive footprint of corporate social responsibility project on the wellbeing of the people in the state.

While making the presentation at the Akerele Primary Health Care Center, the Sole Administrator of Surulere Local Government, Sheriff Olawale Balogun, said, “the building project being commissioned today was just one out of the numerous projects undertaken by this great company.”

He added that Nigeria Breweries has been a pillar of support to the residents of Surulere especially in health and education.Balogun also appreciated the support of His Excellency, Mr. Akinwummi Ambode, where 13 residents of his dear local government benefited from the monthly empowerment programme. He therefore urged the residents of Akerele Primary Health Care Center to make proper use of this provision and always endeavour to pay their taxes and levies so that the government will provide more social amenities for her citizens.

At the opening, the doctor in-charge of Akerele Primary Health Centre Care, Dr. Abidemi Shokoya expressed his gratitude to the NB Plc and Lagos State management for their profound work done which includes renovation of the maternity section, conference hall; children care center, general health and pharmacy.

The Majority Leader of House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, commended NB Plc. for their contributions to the Akerele Primary Health Care Center saying: “These are one of their social and corporate responsibilities to the society.” Gbajamiamila also pleaded with NB Plc. to provide employment opportunities for Surulere residents, as long distance to work place is one of the challenges affecting them.

He said, “Surulere residents who are qualified should be considered as first choice, as it will even be an added advantage for the organization. Rather than have people travel long distance to work, residents will be able to get to work place and return home on time and therefore will be more productive the next day; which is the psychology of an organization.”

Gbajabaimila noted that he would greatly appreciate if NB Plc. considers Surulere residents so that they will continue to maintain a mutual understanding, which they have enjoyed in the past 70 years.
