Social workers launch association in Lagos

MEDICAL social workers under the aegis of Association of Medical Social Worker of Nigeria (AMSWON) have launched the Lagos arm of the national body.

The launch, recently held in Lagos, also saw to the election of officers to run the state chapter for a period of two years.

National President of AMSWON, Foluke Omotosho, expressed delight on the birth of the first chapter to emerge from the national body.

Omotosho said that the association was an opportunity to engage all medical social practitioners throughout the federation to come together in unity, in order to promote a collective interest and deepen the understanding of medical practice in Nigeria.

She pointed out that the event has brought to limelight, the hope for the profession and Nigerians at large, because medical social work is a people-oriented profession that will help proffer solutions to the health challenges facing the country.

Omotosho admonished all members that all hands must be on deck to ensure that the Association is accorded its pride of place, “not only as a lifesaver but also a major stakeholder in the medical profession.”

Director of Medical Social Service in Lagos State, Laide Latinwo, also affirmed that the event, was a dream come true, as she has been holding on for the running of the association for the past two years. “I am fulfilled it has taken off officially as a State Chapter,” she added.
