Stakeholders task Kogi government on malaria control, other killer diseases

Critical stakeholders in the health sector in Kogi State have appealed to the government to assist the Civil Society Organisation for Malaria Control, Immunisation, and Nutrition, (ACOMIN) to ensure a healthy society, as a matter of necessity.

The different stakeholders, who included government health officials, traditional rulers, members of the business community and concerned citizens made the appeal during the state 10 years anniversary.

They pleaded with the state government to consider the immense contributions rendered by ACOMIN, especially on the sensitisation and mobilization of the people towards the prevention, treatment and mitigation of the impact of the killer diseases.

The Executive Director, Kogi State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Abubakar Yakubu, who was among the dignitaries that attended the occasion, said when he assumed office in the state, ACOMIN had already covered most parts of the state with the campaign against yellow fever and mobilisation for preventive vaccination.

Yakubu further attested that the activities of the group contributed so much to the successes recorded by the Ministry of Health and other relevant agencies in the state.

He therefore advised the government to always engage in all sensitisations and mobilisation for health related projects in the state.

In his welcome address, the State Chairman of, ACOMIN, Sani Abubakar, said group’s service delivery area and focus is advocacy, communications (behavioural change communication), social mobilisation, monitoring and supervision of programs

Abubakar also stated that a healthy Nigerian society free of malaria, polio, cerebrospinal meningitis and other communicable and preventable diseases, as well as access to basic, sustainable health-promoting nutrition is the vision of the organisation.
