The Guardian Publisher, others to open Akwaaba travel summit
Publisher of The Guardian Newspapers, Lady Maiden Alex-Ibru, will be the Special Guest of Honour at the opening of the 2021 edition of Akwaaba African Travel Market in Lagos.
Akwaaba, scheduled to hold on November 29 and 30, will draw exhibitors from Dubai, Ghana, Gambia, Nigeria and East Africa. It will be smaller in size than the 2019 edition as organisers seek to impose COVID-19 protocols on the event.
A major stakeholder in the tourism business, Ibru will join a growing list of female VIPs that have had the honour of opening the biggest travel and tourism event in West Africa.
The list includes former Zimbabwe Minister of Tourism, Anastacia Ndlovu; former Minister of Housing, Nigeria, Akon Eyakenyi, and Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, former Nigerian Ambassador to Spain and UNWTO.
As the special guest, Ibru will cut the tape at 12 noon and speak on the ‘Role of the Media in Promoting Tourism and Travels’.
Also coming as a Guest Speaker for this year’s event is the Director-General of the National Institute of Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), Turaki Nura Kangiwa. He will be the guest speaker at this year’s Hospitality Day on November 30. He will be supporting the special guest, Otunba Segun Runsewe, the DG National Council for Arts And Culture (NCAC).
