The Registrar, Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Prof. Josiah Olusegun Ajiboye has assured that the teaching profession would henceforth be accorded its rightful place of prominence through inculcation of best practices.

Ajiboye, who was a special guest at the joint graduation of Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PDE), induction ceremony for Master, Bachelor and National Certificate of Education (NCE) graduates into TRCN, noted that the council was established to bring transformation to teaching and learning.

Ajiboye said this could be achieved with qualitative teacher education programmes, professional conducts and overall status of teachers at all levels of educational system.

He, however, pointed out that the transformation may not be possible without fundamental changes in the attitude, orientation and behaviour of teachers towards greater values, ideals and practices as obtained in other professions.

Ajiboye said the narrative of teaching and learning in the country is rapidly changing due to clear understanding by government and private sector on role of the teacher in the emerging knowledge economy, and need to attract and retain the best brains in the nation’s educational institution.

President Muhammadu Buhari had in October, last year, approved incentives to revitalise and reposition the teaching profession.

Ajiboye emphasised that only highly intelligent and outstanding students with the right attitude and emotional disposition, would henceforth be employed as teachers.

Provost, Topmost College of Education, Dr Olufunmilayo Odunayo commended both Federal and Lagos State Governments for joining the rest of the world in ensuring that qualitative education is encouraged, by mandating every teacher and school owners to write and pass TRCN examinations, be inducted into the council and possess a certificate that is globally recognised.
