The National Universities Commission (NUC), has granted approval to the Nigerian Turkish Nile University (NTNU), to commence programmes in its College of Medicine. The approval was sequel to the recently concluded accreditation exercise.

According to dean of the college Prof. Melih Erkan, with this development, “The university will be starting three new programmes in September 2016 in the field of microbiology, biochemistry, and medicine.”

Erkan added that the accreditation was a dream come true for the management after years of planning and investment in state-of-the-art medical equipment, and recruitment of highly experienced professors and lecturers from Nigeria and Turkey.

“Our aim is to be the best in Africa. It took the university three years to put the college in place in terms of equipment and staff. The school has pegged the first set of intakes at 55 students,” Erkan said.

He added: “For a start, we are beginning with 55 students in medicine, biochemistry and microbiology and five per cent of all the students will be on full scholarship.
