THE President of Seventh Day Adventist Lagos Atlantic Conference, Pastor Jacob E. Umoru has called on religious leaders to stop pursuing cheap popularity; rather they should channel their energies into teaching their members the truth of the gospel, which the Head of the Church, Jesus Christ stood and died for. He gave this advice during the dedication of the administrative headquarters put up to advance the cause of the gospel.
Lamenting that people who go to church today are not exposed to sound teaching of the word of God, Pastor Umoru reminded church leaders that the purpose of gathering members is to ensure that they make heaven.
According to him, this singular act has given room for corruption to thrive, while the youths are not encouraged to harness their potentials.
Speaking further on the edifice, which was constructed in September 2014, the President said: “It is an administrative headquarters, where the leadership of the Church meets to plan on how to carry the message of the gospel to the people in this area. We have a multi-purpose hall in the building meant for training of both the young and old in the Word of God, believing that this edifice will assist us in spreading the message of the gospel and believe that this community would be blessed by our presence here.
“We are a church that is humanitarian oriented. We are interested in meeting the community people’s needs. We also have programme to meet the victims of disasters. We go to the orphanages and by the grace of God; we are interested in the education of the people, which compels us to run schools and hospitals as well.
Seven Day Adventist Lagos Atlantic Conference Secretary, Imam Adekunle Yusuf advised youth to remember God in their early life and depart from the misuse of social media, which can be used to spread the gospel instead of using it for evil.
The cost of building the administrative blocks was put at N130 million.
