Authorities of the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) says the sack of two officials of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), was on account of misconduct on their part.

A statement from the Deputy Registrar in charge of Information, Waziri Garba, said that the university’s branch Chairman of SSANU, Mr. Jude Nwabueze, and the secretary Malam Nurudeen Yusuf, were engaged,  “in a series of acts of misconduct, including wild publications in the media against the university administration.”

According to the statement, the duo, through the said publications, had allegedly accused the institution of corruption, which they claimed had resulted in the inability of the university to pay staff their full salaries.

“Even when the vice chancellor and other principal officers took time to explain to the executive members of the staff unions on campus, and equally responded to their claims in the press, that the shortfall in salaries was not the fault of the university, but from the government, which also affected all public universities, the SSANU officials still persisted in publishing unsubstantiated allegations against the university management.

“The duo had at some point become impatient with constituted authorities, including the properly constituted anti-corruption bodies
to which they claimed to have reported the alleged corruption.  They, therefore, engaged in reckless publications and circulation of
materials which to say the least were malicious. And this was despite repeated warnings to them to desist from such acts.
