Eminent and distinguished scholar Professor Ibinabo Sokipiringo Agiobu-Kemmer was honoured and celebrated glamorously over the weekend by families, friends, colleagues, staff and students of the University of Lagos marking her 70th years birthday, retirement from academic service from the university and launching of a festschrift publication in her honour. An erudite scholar, having served the University in different capacities with diligence, and honour spanning 45yrs.

Born 70 years ago as the second child of the late Rev. Chief R.S.G. Agiobu-Kemmer and Princess Ibironke Agiobu-Kemmer.
Professor Ibinabo Agiobu-Kemmer began her early education at Araromi Baptist Church, Infant School on Moloney Street, Lagos Island and her primary education at Obele-Odan Municipal School, Itire in Surulere, then proceeded to Queens College at the age 12, passing out in colours with her WAEC in 1969, before been admitted to the University of Lagos to study Psychology.
She graduated with BSc. Psychology with First-Class Honors in 1976 not only as the best in Psychology but also the best Graduating Student in the faculty. In 1977 she was admitted to the prestigious University of St. Andrews in Scotland, the United Kingdom on scholarship, to pursue a doctorate in Developmental Psychology thereby bagging a PhD in Child Psychology. Professor Kemmer is a recipient of several academic laurels such as Commonwealth Research Fellow, The British Council 1990, and Long Service Award for University of Lagos (2007, 2019,2022) amongst many others.

At the event were the Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Toyin Ogundipe, and the entire three deputies of the University of Lagos. Deputy Vice-chancellor, Professor Lucian. O. Chukwu (Management Services), Professor Bolanle Oboh (Academics and research) and Professor Ayodele Victoria Atsenuwa (Development services), it was a gathering of academia from the faculty of Social science and department of Psychology, deans of other Faculties, head of departments, senior lecturers and others to commemorate an academic amazon with a sterling performance.
Speaking in the event the dean of the faculty of Social sciences, Prof. Funmilayo Bammeke described the celebrant as a rare breed, a classic scholar, a rigorous trainer and a certified psychologist. In reading the citation Dr Mrs Isreal, a senior lecturer in the department of the Psychology University of Lagos, described the retiree as a highly distinguished scholar who during her administrative tenure as the head of the department of Psychology, recorded five students in First Class division being the highest in the department including the best university graduand in 2015 with a groundbreaking score of 5.0 CGPA: a first-time achievement in the nearly fifty-year history of the University of Lagos among others.
The book titled Issues of Child Development in Nigeria- A festschrift in honour of Professor Agiobu Kemmer is to address matters of child development neglect, a germane need in Nigeria. She has also benefited the lives of innumerable people with her philanthropy and contributed her wealth of knowledge in academia and gender advocacy. Professor Kemmer is blessed with children and grandchildren.
