UNN hosts Southeast Health Summit in September

Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and healthy lives in the southeastern region of the country will form the focus of the Southeast Health Summit 2015, which is scheduled to hold on September 3, 2015 at the Dome Conference Center in Enugu, Enugu state.

The one-day submit with theme: “Achieving universal health coverage and healthy lives”, promises to address the poor health indices of the southeast, dysfunctional health and politics, economic, and social realities, as well as justify the need to refocus on the health system in the region.

The theme, also concentrates on using governance, information, financing, service delivery, human resources, medicines and technologies with people to foster universal health care in southeast.

In a statement signed by Dr. Chima A. Onoka, on behalf of the health Systems Forum, Nigeria and Health Policy Research Group, College of Medicine, University of Nigeria, Nsuka (UNN), the summit aims to bring together stakeholders, involved in the policymaking of the healthcare sector in the southeast region.

The summit, also targets audiences from stakeholders like Policy makers, health providers, development partners, funders, researchers, Civil Society and healthcare consumers within the health sector specifically from the region.

According to Onoka, “Administrators and managers are facing the enormous responsibility to reform the health system, introduce state health insurance schemes, primary healthcare agencies, accountability systems, efficient service delivery systems, effective health workforce and quality care”.

However, how to develop and implement feasible context – sensitive approaches remain a challenge, he added.

The summit will create a platform for open discourse on the pertinent and ways for reforming the health system at all levels in the southeast region.
