GOD has purpose for everything including the suffering and death of our Lord Jesus Christ. “The Lord Almighty has sworn this oath: “It will all happen as I have planned. It will come about according to my purposes…The Lord Almighty has spoken-who can change his plans? When his hand moves, who can stop him?”-Isaiah 14:24,27.
Other Scriptures also buttress this point. “The Lord’s plans stand firm forever; His intentions can never be shaken”-Psalm 33:11. “Only I can tell you what is going to happen even before it happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish”-Isaiah 46:10. I believe with these few Bible passages you now know that God is a God of purpose. This means, when it comes to God, nothing happen by chance or accidents.
Have you ever thought about Jesus Christ’s suffering, death and resurrection? Why did Jesus Christ suffer and die? Why did He have to die on the Cross? Why not through an accident especially when there was storm? Why not on one of those occasions when some people wanted to stone Him? Why did He not die anyhow? Why die at the prime of His life especially when His ministry was touching lives positively.
“And He (Jesus) came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up: and as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. And there was delivered unto Him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor, He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised. To preach the acceptable year of the Lord”-Luke 4:16-19. Despite this pleasing mission statement, Jesus Christ allowed this work to come to a sudden close. He chose to suffer and face execution by hanging on the cross instead of expanding His ministry.
Nevertheless, we need to thank God for prophecies and His written Word, Bible because it answers all these probing questions. By the grace of God and the help of the Holy Spirit, we shall dig deep into the Scriptures to get the answers. One thing you must bear in mind is that everything about Jesus Christ is in total agreement with the will, plan and purpose of the Father-God. Additionally, know unquestionably that death was an essential part of Jesus’ ministry. He said, “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many”-Matthew 20:28.
He came to give His life, to die, and His death results in salvation for others. This was the reason He came to earth. His blood was poured out for others. Matthew 26:28.
